Default "Service 4WD System"

'Morning All,
Can anyone tell me what the "Service 4WD System" message really means? I have been through the manual for my WH CRD but there is no explanation I can find.
Cheers....... Kenjo

I think its just a message to alert you that maybe a fault code has come up on your car. I found recently that if you turn your ignition on and off really quickly three times (don't start the car), your fault code will come up on the EVIC

Thanks Patience. I tried your suggestion but all I get is the continuous "Service 4WD System" message. I am reluctant to take it to a Jeep dealer who I expect would charge me heaps and maybe just clear the computer malfunction message. I'd just like to know what the massage means.

A quick look around shows that other people are experiencing the problem, in addition several people have taken in to the stealership who simply say they cannot find any fault codes.

It would seem there is a TSB that describes this warning message when no real problem exists. See this link to the TSB http://www.wkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk_2101406a.pdf

If it is a flash that is required and no codes are present then it is off to the stealership. Although it is only marked at 0.3 hours of work i am sure they will figure a way to turn it into a $500 bill.

kenjo, have had this appear on my screen numerous times and then it dissapeared, except for one time when it came on and stayed.
after speaking to Jeep Assist, I took it to the next dealer, 200Km up the road in Mackay, OLD, a very capable young mechanic/technician attached a scan tool and cleared the fault code,
He said it was a wear problem in the clutch pack in part of the transmission.
I constantly travel, towing a 2.5 tonne caravan, the vehicle has done over 10,000Km since then (towing the van) and the fault code has not re-appeared.
If it was a wear problem it would have re-surfaced, so perhaps it was just a hot transmission or I had a driveshaft seal problem at the time, so some oil may have leaked, that was repaired in Townsville prior to those Km's travelled.
Incidentally, there was no charge from the Mackay dealer.
You may have to take it to someone to have the fault code cleared?

It's a long time since this topic came up. There is a computer flash that can be applied and from memory was once done as part of the warranty. Start with the delaer to see if the patch has been applied, taking the TSB above to them just in case, but they are likely to have seen it many times already .

I had this come up on mine and took it to Mackay dealer and they rectified it by reseting it on the OBD11 thingie. I was told it was from trying to select low range and it didn't engauge properly and electric motor was still trying to engauge it untill it tripped out and set off the fault code. I remember I was cleaning out the car before it appeared so I may have accedently moved the little lever whilst cleaning around it. Have not had any fault light since getting it reset ( about 3 months ago).
