Default WJ Heater core

All those that have replaced heater core, are they same for left or right hand drive?
Where did you get core from?
Is stock core brass/copper job or ally with crimped on side tanks?
Is it necessary to de-gass A/C?
Thanks for any replies.
Mine has dumped all of engine coolant into passenger footwell.

Don't know about differences between right and left hand drive unfortunately.

I bought a heater core from these guys

http://scherbragroup.com.au/automoti...ers/index.html

Ordered it over the phone and had it delivered to the workshop that was installing it for me. Worked out less than half the cost of a genuine item.
When I ordered mine there was 2 different types but they've changed their site layout a bit now and in the pdf catalogue in only shows one listing for the WJ now

I've heard of people having the core repaired at a normal radiator shop so this may be an option if you can take it all apart yourself.

When they did mine, I'm pretty sure they dumped all the AC gas but not 100% sure if it's absolutely necessary or not.

I got mine from scherbracorp also.
I sent them a photo of mine, just to make sure they sent me the correct one.
I cant imagine why you would need to de-gas the aircond to change the heater core, but not sure ? Having said that, I did de-gas mine, but I had the entire dash out fixing the blend doors at the same time so I had other reasons for letting the gas out.
I'll post the photo of my heater core, if that helps, assuming I can find it !

When I bought the car it was supposed to have had the blend doors & heater done, now wondering if they just patched the old core up.

I've put in a tap in the heater hose, and I bypass it most of the time anyway. The main reason that I do this is because even after pulling the whole dash out, and replacing all the broken blend doors, and testing all the actuators, it STILL blows hot air out of the passenger side vents when the aircond is on !!
I actually reckon I could do with out the heater. If mine went again, I'd just bypass it and forget about it. Especially if your seat heaters work, you dont need the heater core I reckon.
good luck with it.
