Default internet etc...

Hello peoples,

Does anybody know if a Nokia E-51 can be used as a mobile modem??
Reason I ask is, we have been having some problems with our land line. For quite some time now, on and off, we get bad static and drop-outs on our phone and trouble with internet connection dropping out and hooking up constantly. I have broadband ADSL by the way.

Once more, "they" fixed it, although the second last technician they sent said "the wiring at the junction box at the end of your street is severely corroded. Because 'they' used a curtain type of insulator, way back when, it actually causes corrosion and these types of problems blah blah blah etc etc...".

So, I'm expecting to be complaining again in a few months time.

I know I can just buy a dongle/usb thingy, and sign up to some mobile broadband plan, but if I can use my phone I'll just bundle something with that.

I'm hoping mobile will be more reliable than ADSL.

Any one have anything interesting to add?????

cheers

There is alot of maintenance going on at the moment getting rid of the gel so if you're still having trouble just keep reporting it and it will be escalated soon enough.

Until your land line improves, yes the phone can be used as a modem. You will need to have the Nokia PC Suite software installed and can connect to the computer by cable, bluetooth or infrared - cable is probably the best.

Make sure you have a decent data amount allowed on your phone plan so you don't get a scary bill. If you use the phone as a modem make sure you have some way of monitoring the amount of data being sent too. If Aust. is anything like the UK excess data charges can be very expensive, and quickly add up.

check with your mobile telco provider, some carriers don't allow tethering unless you specifically ask (and pay) for it.
i think telstra are the only ones who allow it by default.
