I have found, as many have I imagine, the frustration of inconsistencies in actual sizes.
I can't recall the brand now, I think it was Korean, in a 31x10.5 15 actually measured just under 30" in diameter.

In theory, if we did our homework, and found a tyre that was 'over' size, legally, if the sidewall says it's within the limits of our certificate/law, then we can't be penalized for it.

Not many manufacturers are the same as each other either. But they are all "close to the mark". Even different models within a brand, are physically different sizes for a particular size. Eg, 31s.

I know I'm not saying anything new, just rambling.

Can't wait to see what the engineer has got to say. He's very interested in having a look at the shackle relocation brackets. He hasn't seen them before. But by the sound of him on the phone, he likes the concept.

Cheers

May be pushing the envelope with the tyres. We'll see.

Fill the tank & put a couple of bags of cement on the floor & that will easily get rid of 1/2". 3" is actually 2" on a sport, so you will be ok. it will probably sag the 1/2" soon enough.
Measure the distance from the ground to the center of the wheel when the car is on the ground. Times this by 2 & that is the diameter. it will be under, if not let a bit of air out of the tyres.

The lift size is fine. I'm aloud a maximum of 6".
Supposed to be 2" body lift, 2" suspension lift and 2" in tyres.
But seeing as the xj is monocoque, he's allowing 4" in suspension.
The 2" in tyres isn't truly lift either. It's how much oversized you're allowed to go. Eg 28" tyres the largest standard tyres available on your model. You can engineer 30" tyres, easily.
All this, of course, depends on the individual engineer.

Probably Nexen's, I think mine were slightly less in diameter than specified (when new)

This does NOT apply in Qld, there is no hard and fast rule up here in regards to lift, the 50mm lift is mentioned BUT they have put a secondary measurement in place which is to do with suspension travel reduction and 50mm lift exceeds this so essentially with stock arms in Qld 50mm lift exceeds this criteria...
