Had a thought this arvo that may work, here's hoping!! I found out Treg's are still in business. With a bit of luck they may have records on my trailer if the rego plate was the same as when it was first registered. Gonna call them on Mon and see if they have the original vin number. If yes I should be able to get it stamped either by Treg's or someone else who makes trailers.

The place that made my trailer put a pop rivet through the last digit on the compliance plate... Can't see it at all.

Not as bad as no plate, but you are not alone! (My JK didn't have an engine number when I broughtr it down from QLD to NSW either, and that caused a lot of extra trips and cost to get it sorted! )

For the record, my number plate is on the hinge end of the swing out tailgate & the light is just connected by by a short pigtail to some sockets on the trailer side of the wiring.

On my boat trailer I hang the numberplate on the rear crossmember. It hangs down lower than the frame. To stop it from being ripped off, I attach it to the frame with a piece of plastic like an ice cream lid. That allows it to flip up if it scrapes on the ground.
My trailer is registered as a "homemade" and I have never seen a compliance plate on it. Being rated under 750kg's GVM, there is no annual inspection here. I just pay the money.

Made some calls and looks like I will be ok. I have to get the trailer inspected at a licensed inspection station prior to having it regoed in Tas. But because it is classified as a light vehicle I can get it passed without the compliance plate. The bloke doing the inspection just needs to call transport for an authorisation to it not having a plate and then I should be right to go in with the inspection check pass certificate and register it in Tas. Decided to cut of the tie rail and have it welded down lower. That way the number plate can go up higher and the licence plate light can sit in a spot where it will work and not get smashed or the wires ripped out.

Starting to get more organised now too. I have two proper trailer Ford rims on and have removed the homemade wheel spacers, which would have never passed. Pretty stoked the mech stripped and fitted my old tyres to the new rims for 5 bucks each. Hopefully get the brake backing mounting plates welded on in the next few weeks and then get on Fleabay and pick up a new master cylinder and I should have working brakes again. . Been told I need to remove my side tool box as it hangs over the guard 25mm. Hopefully that's all I need to get a successful pass. I'd really love to add a couple of leafs to the springs when I can afford it because that will mean they can handle the 950kg load that I am allowed to carry as it's approved for 1300kg GVM. At the moment the springs seem to sit a little low once it gets much over 650kg, especially when the load shifts to the rear like it does when I pull gravel and drive up hill on the corrugations on my way home.

I picked up a new master cylinder for a trailer from "Supercrap". Was not expensive. Trailer leaf springs are cheap too off the interweb. I have just upgraded our work trailers' springs and axle and it was easy. I have just disposed of a seven leaf pack that often used to carry over a ton in the trailer.

I need custom leafs as I have eye to eye long leaf packs. Treg's used to use leafs packs that are quite a bit longer than slipper springs. When I had the trailer overhauled I was told to keep the old packs by a trailer place. I was told they would handle the weight. Had I known at the time I would have had the hangers welded in a different position while it was upside down at the welders workshop and went with HD slipper springs. Too hard for me to cut the hangers off now and have them welded back on and then to get new leaf packs. Be around the same cost to have mine beefed up as I can get the packs sorted and then refit them myself. No flipping the trailer and trying to get someone to weld new hangers and stuff. According to the spring manufacturers the longer springs ride better.... I'll take their word for it.
