D30 wont handle 35s if you wheel it hard. Yes 3.5" lift will work better off road.

you won't get those long arms passed at a QLD transport depo if they decide to view the jeep...

My D30 has handled 35's for the last 6 months without a worry Although it does have Chromo axles...

Ummm mines been running 36inch bias plys for over a year now with a locker and its fine. Just need to remember not to boot it with the locker on when you have the front wheel jammed between some rocks etc.

What part of the d30 wont handle it?

yeh i agree, my dana30 has been running 35s for 1 year now, i wheel regulary, and am always creative with my lines
but i have good ratios, and lockers, i crawl tuff sections slowly, and use control and flex to get around, not more right foot..
