Default Where can you go to get away from bushfires?

The reach of the fires this season is unbelievable, and hardly any spots have been left untouched. Residents and holidaymakers have been displaced and there has been chaos on the roads.

Hoping this comes to an end quickly and the people and communities affected bounce back quickly.

The Murray down stream of lake Hume. There are many camping spots all the way to the mouth.
The Goulburn & its backwaters down stream of Seymour to the Murray.
There are numerous places along these rivers from free camps to van parks to motels. Many sandy beaches provide great swimming/fishing/boating.

The lower SE of SA has some great beaches & even beach/sand dune 4X4 driving.

Eyre Highway has been blocked due to fires at Norseman so moving between WA/SA is not an option, unless you are prepared to go off-road via coast or transcontinental railway line.

Snowy Mountains and surrounds look like they will be experiencing fire activity on both sides of the NSW/VIC border.

The Murray does look and sound inviting, even though temps have been very high recently.

Wondering how many of us have been caught up on the wrong side of road closures these holidays or might have tales of dealing with the fire situation - even without leaving home.

Some are calling for a change to our main holiday period i.e. moving it from Summer to winter. This would suit many of us that go inland.

Thankfully the Watagans are untouched as I just live down the road from there.

I camped over Xmas at the foot of the mountains at Yarwal. I left a few days earlier than planned because the bush fire smoke was causing havoc with my solar panels and I was running out of power. It was a good thing as 2 days later a fire swept through and burnt the area out.

It took me 7 hours to get home instead of the normal 4 but I'm glad I got out when I did.

I should change the thread name to: where can you go to get away from the deluge! Queensland has really copped it from GC all the way to Cunnamulla. Not sure if anyone is complaining.

I saw some footage on the news of tourists returning to the NSW south coast in their vans and tents. They didn't look like they were too bothered by the rain.
