Jack
I know what you mean. I have an ancient, well 1988, TD Pajero LWB I bought as a grey import from Japan 3 years ago. It had done 17k's and has now just done 105ks. It's slow but obscenely reliable, disgracefully economical, is comfortable (much better than the Oz spec ones - all the fruit), LSD, a great set of low range gears - the only thing I'm missing so far is a winch and front locker.
When I heard about the Unlimited I thought "great I can get another Wrangler that I can camp/tour in" - room for swags, an Engel etc, but up at those prices I'm now re-thinking - sure the Paj isn't exciting but with only 100 thou on it and the whole package only owing me about $15k including purchase price...how do I justify $40-something-K? Maybe when I kill the Paj, but not yet...
Mike

Hey Guys have any of you tried to by one of those 3 p's of late
won't get the p's on with diff lockers, mud tyres, removal tops, etc
try and get one on road for less than 60k
if your in the market for a New 4x4 the new JK is a very attractive package - either 2 or 4 door
Let's wait and see what we pay for them - the US are paying $29k for a rubicon 4 door the oz dollar is around 80c so all should be good there

Thats a great news that the Rubicon will be released in oz after all!!
41k will be a great hike for me, but atleast it will be the most capable stock offroad available in oz.
Is the 41k for the petrol engine?
Also i heard rumors that the 3.0CRD will be available forAustralia?
Doubt thats true?

The Unlimited Rubicon needs to be under 45k drive-away or it simply won't sell in any real volume. Above 45k and the buyer will be comparing it to too many other 4wd's whose creature comforts would leave the JK for dead (I'm talking prado, pajero, pathfinder here). Much as it pains me to say it, I'd be very surprised if the Unlimited matches the comfort and feature levels of the three p's. The way I see it, the single strong selling point which will entice the p group of buyers to consider an Unlimited is the attraction of Rubicon's superior off-road ability (axle strength, lockers, low transfer case ratios, etc).
I reckon the p group would like to have the better off-road ability, but they aren't willing to pay extra dollars for it.

The P group belongs to the soccer mum group, at which the jeep jk isnt aimed at.
I hope the 4door JK unlimited rubicon will be a solid workhorse competitor to the 78 series, patrol's, and defenders....
With the modular hardtop, i have seen raised roof version of the unlimited. Which I believe would benefit anyone requiring a bit more space inside.

We'll sell every 4-door JK we can get for the next three years, gauranteed. It won't matter whether it's a diesel, petrol, Sport, Rubicon, manual or auto. This little fella is gunna set the market on fire.

Agreed, what other convertible 4 door with solid axles front and rear is there? There is plenty of talk on non Jeep forums of guys moving away from their current vehicles and getting the unlimited.
Cheers
Steve

If you're right, DC might have trouble meeting the JK demand.
It's interesting to note that combined sales of Prado, Pajero and Pathfinder is averaging around 1,900 vehicles per month. Assuming the Unlimited can poach 10% off the p group, plus attract other new buyers to the Jeep brand, it's possible the Unlimited demand could exceed 400 vehicles per month.
DC's achilles heel might end up being it's small number of dealerships in regional areas. Any idea if there are plans to increase the number of Jeep dealerships?
