Default So is it Jeep/Chrysler approved for use as a Power Steering Fluid?????

Ok, so this is Mobil's fluid for these TX cases - including Quadra-Trac New Process/New Venture type NP249J ?????

......also, is it a correct fluid to use in the power steering system of a ZJ/ZG 1997.

In Coles, I chanced upon a Shell Power Steering Fluid in 500ml top-up size and when I checked the Type Approval Numbers on the back against the appropriate ones mentioned by various Oil and lube and Engineering Standards (can't recall them all at present, but have it all written down somewhere) institutes and Jeep/Chrysler it was an approved fluid!.......anyway, the point is that this stuff is classed as a "Specialist Hydraulic Fluid" and I have used it to do a power steering fluid change.

About a year later the P/S pump developed a leak at the front shaft seal......caused by change to this Shell fluid????

The P/S leak has been very successfully immediately cured by use of Lucas Oil's Power Steering Leak Stopper(following directions carefully!!! remove amount of fluid equal to contents of bottle then add!). Range Rover owners will attest to how well this stuff works - it has a money back guarantee if it doesn't!!

424 is okay in 247/249 TC's. As for power steering the question is open, waiting for somebody to use it in their system and report back after 50,000km.
At present PS fluid for the WG/J is Jeep/ Mopar especially in CRD's, earlier versions could use ATF+4, Jeep stuff for earlier than 04 is only about $19/lt while the stuff for after 04 is about $26/lt. Would quote the numbers but don't have them handy. PS Fluid for the ZG I will have to look it up but I think the Castrol PS Fluid or Penrite PAS Fluid is good for it, a change of fluid in old systems not done regularly can cause problems even with the right stuff but usually the seals fail due to differences in the make up of the other fluid, always safer to use the same brand in older stuff.

Penrite told me the PAS was suitable for my CRD.

Side note in older sytems that use ATF for power steering a cheap leak fix is brake fluid. Couple of lid fulls works wonders, might be cheaper than the Lucas stuff. But use at your risk for more modern systems. Brake fluid has a seal swelling agent which can help if that's where your PS is leaking.

No, you can't use Mobilfluid 424 in your power steering as they are 2 different Mopar part numbers. The Mobilfluid 424 can be used for NV or NP (their old name) 245, 247 and 249. I'll share this link below from identifix, check out page 7 for power steering numbers and info (about the ATF+4 being superceded) and then on page 9 for transfer case (although it doesn't mention NV249, they are the same part numbers though), it's either the Mopar part number or Mobilfluid 424:
