Default New head unit Aerpro wiring harness questions

Hi all.

Picked up a single DIN JVC head unit on special at Supercheap, also got the required Aerpro harnesses, APP018 (https://aerpro.com/app018) and APP8JVC5.

Doing the install today and noticed the head unit wouldn't power on once everything was connected, and also that a spare red wire was remaining in the APP018 box.
Called Aerpro and they said that the red wire needs to be run to an accessory fuse, then plugged into a spot in the APP018 black harness plug.
I temporarily tapped the red wire into the passenger side cig lighter and confirmed the wire was getting power, plugged the other end into the black harness, then connected everything back up - but still no power to the head unit.

Would be nice if Aerpro included some instructions.

Could be a DOA head unit, not sure how to test powering it up since there's no wiring diagrams...?

Does CANBUS/ECU/PCM or anything need to be modified to accept the new head unit?
Am I just plugging things in wrong? Hope not lol.

Any ideas from anyone who's installed an aftermarket head unit?

What I would try first is Googling all the info I could on the head unit & harness.

Next, pull it all out & make sure they match with what you have read.

Verify all the connections as you plug them into the car & that nothing is shorted.

Double check to see if you need to screw an earth connection on anywhere.

If after doing all that several times, (I've gone over things 3 or 4 times before finding the one thing I missed, on occasion), take the head unit back & tell them you suspect it might be DOA & can they check it or replace it.

I got one of the Chinese Android head units which came with the JK specific harness in the box. After that I was online & checking images, and what others had done. It had 2 JK side connectors on one part. One worked, the other didn't. In my case, this was because of the way the OEM Infinity amp works. It only takes left/right stereo. Front/rear fade is controlled by the amp via commands from the head unit over the CANBUS! So I had to use the 2 channel plug, not the 4 channel one... And no fade control until I replace the amp..

@Banshee, thanks for the input.

I reconnected everything a heap of times, tested the plugs and wiring in the harnesses, but nothing seemed to work until I got a hint from someone on Facebook. Turns out the Aerpro person gave me the wrong info and the red accessory wire needed to be mated to a different wire in the harness - all good after that!
