Default Panhard Rod Modification

I put some 40mm raised springs into my ZJ goving me a real time lift of 100mm at the back. Originals must have been totally shagged. Anyway, I now need to extend the rear panhard rod. Is there any reason why I would not just cut it and extend it by using a sleeve welded in place. It would be a simple matter to work out the correct length. I assume the rod is just mild steel.

i was rocking cut and sleeved trackbars/panhards front and rear on the jk for ages, just make sure your welds are A1 if in doubt get a pro to weld them failure could be fatal.

better to buy and adjustable....

Not unusual to cut and lengthen but after all these years the non replaceable tierod end is probably pretty worn. Better to replace with a heavy duty one than try and lengthen an old worn comparatively weak stock one.

Cheers

How much out is it? Remember you only have to lengthen it by half of the difference. In the front on a XJ you can just redrill the hole where it attaches to the axle over a bit more. Dont know what these are like on the rear, but agree with Steve that it might be due for replacement anyway. Buy an adjustable one.

I know for sure I wouldn't be cutting and welding it, if something goes wrong out on the road you could be in for a world of problems, grab an adjustable one....

I had 2" lift on my ZJ & while you dont really need to adjust for this lift I wound up re-drilling bracket ,only needed about 1/2"from memory.
