Default Knock under TJ

Hi Guys. Has anybody experienced a knock comming from the gearbox/transfer case area? I have a 2006 TJ 6 speed. The knock is typically in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear. My driveway is a steep climb, and in 1st geat the knock becomes a violent shudder thru the gear stick and whole car. When it is in lowrange however ther is no sign of it?

Gearbox or engine mounts. There are plenty of threads with this general description of a knock, clunk or shudder. Search through the first 3-4 pages of this section of the forum. Ul find plenty

I had a look. All the engine/body mounts are secure. Thinking maybe bearings in the gearbox or transfer case? Anyone had problems with these before? The jeep has 80k on the dial, and i get into it a bit!

if its more of a cracking sound it could also be a driveshaft uni joint on its way out, mine would sound like it was going to crack wide open when i got into it. when driving in 1-3 it would squeek and shudder as well. best way i found to check is to just ive it a good solid shake and if there is play in the uni its buggered.
