So I went out side a few weeks ago to find my rear passenger window half way down. I thought to myself, "I don't remember leaving my window open"? On closer inspection i discovered that the window slid freely up and down by hand? Not good... I let go and it dropped in to the door. I tried moving the window via the switch on the centre console. I could hear the motor but no window appeared. Bugger.. So pulled the door apart and discovered the plastic clip that holds the window to the regulator had warn out or broke.
I would like to mention that. Yes you can buy replacement plastic window clips. I have seen them on ebay from US for about $20 each plus $20 postage. Probably might even be cheaper from a dealer. But I figure if it works and doesn't cost me anything.. then why not?
All you require is some tie wire and Araldite epoxy.
Once I removed the regulator from the door. I drilled out the pop rivet and separated the metal guide from the plastic tube and motor.
Basically, I just used a wired loop around the main drive spring thing. I ran the wire between the wire of the spring. I then drilled a hole or "channel" on each side of the remaining plastic clip. I then put the wire trough the old plastic clip and tied it on the window side. Then using Araldite epoxy, i filled all the gaps and joined the plastic window clip to the spring. Once the Araldite had set, I filed all the sides down smooth too the same height as the main spring, so it would fit back inside the metal slide tube. The trick is to position the spring on the plastic clip before you drill. So when you drill it is in a spot that will keep the wire loop within the plastic structure and that way the wire won't interfere with metal slide tube. Also make sure it is attached on the correct side of the spring, so it can be put back together.
Anyway it worked for me and havent had any problems yet. Also saved me a few dollars. I guess the down side is that if it happens again I will have to get all the Araldite off.
