The right way to do it is to use caster shims between the axle and the springs so the diff is point to the transfer case, that way you get your clearance back as that 1" trasfer drop is defeating 1" of your lift....
tried 2 sets of wedges under the axles and it did nothing. one set made it worse if anything. Hardy spicer checked the drive angles and said it shouldnt vibrate and the angle is spot on but it did still vibrate. I dropped the tranfer and the vibration is gone. It had the vibration when it only had a 2" lift i put the sye in two brand new shafts and it still had the vibration. I have another update XJ with 2" lift, no sye and it is fine.

I don't think you're alone, on the Rustys web site they say some XJs may need a SYE and or shims. I'm not sure why some don't have issues and some do. Like I said I'm no expert, I guess the main thing is that it's sorted.

looking at all these rigs make me want to stick abig lift and huge tyres on my XJ.

But I can't justify it and just want something pretty simple. 2in lift and 30/31in tyres and I'll all good. Also less is a lot easier to fit/maintain from what i'm hearing.
Guess I'll just have to see how many silly places I can go with the smaller gear

I have two XJs. one with 2" lift and 31" tyres and one with 4" lift and 33" tyres. The one with the small lift will go just about anywhere the one with 4" lift will go, it just doesnt do logs and big rocks quite as good. More throttle sometimed solves that problem but its not so good for it. lol

Its sorted now. i know the trasfer drop defeats the purpose of the lift a little but i havn't dragged the crossmember much at all and i dont do ant extreme off roading anyway. just built it so i'm not the one that gets stuck when i go out with my mates

Default I miss this car

I've been enjoying pouring over all these XJ pics and stories which brings back very fond memories of my XJ that I owned for 3 years. Essentially stock with 31 inch A/T's, 2inch lifted front coils & shocks and add-a-leaf rears with 3" Boomerang shackles.
It was a great car that I bought for $3K, loved every minute of driving it and it was very capable and constantly surprised big Nissans and Cruisers in my local 4wd club.
Thanks for indulging my reminiscing, I do miss that car!
