Owners of post 2000 jeeps designed to remove the doors ..... are basically screwed by aust red tape ....

.... and proves what a crock most of the red tape is.
Yup many threads an there will probably be more ;).
Yet NO year models of TJ's had side intrusion bars.
The red tape is a vital so that we know when to eat, shyt & breath.

It won't help much but... In the US you can only legally drive with no doors if doors were optional, so CJs are the last Jeeps that can legally be driven doorless. In the UK you must have a vertical distance of, I think, six inches between the foot well floor and the bottom of the door opening. So, TJs are legal but JKs are not because the foot well isn't deep enough.

You could argue that during an accident the doors could fly off and hit a bystander, thus better them to be off safely stored at home! ;-)

Default cant get straight answers

I recently spoke to The federal Gov ADR office. The answers they gave me were inconclusive, but, they did say that if a vehicle is designed to be driven with the doors off it is indeed legal to do so. They also said that its up to the states to enforce it.

So, I called QLD transport. They told me the same thing. In fact I have it in writing (email) that you may drive a vehicle with the doors off if it was designed to do so. They told me that if Jeep Australia will give me a letter or something in writing than they would endorse it.

I contacted jeep. They confirmed verbally that "YES" a jeep is designed to be driven with the doors off, BUT, when I asked for it in writing they said they needed to contact their legal department.

That's where it died.....

If anyone out there has it confirmed from JEEP Australia that Jeeps are desinged to be driven with doors off, (on road) than I have the email that lets us do it.

If you have a trail rated badge on your Jeep, it's okay to drive with the doors off.

Put this sticker on the back window & you'd probably get away with it ;)
