personally i'd bypass it and see what happens, you'd probably be suprised at how easy it is

I tried all that, even tried 6th gear. If the ground is slippery or wet forget it.

I have roll started mine a few times (usually after catching 4th instead of 2nd and stalling) you can do it!

The clutch down 'safety' (read: protect the stupid from themselves) feature stops the starter engaging - but the engine can still 'start' if you can get it turning.

Once the engine turns, the alternator gives some output I would guess around 20% at idle. A dead flat battery would need a longer 'run up' with the momentum of the vehicle 'pushing' the engine until the alternator could power the fuel pumps long enough to prime the fuel lines, but I dont see why it couldnt be done. I wouldnt think more than a couple of seconds tho of bunny hopping.
