I've heard ppl do this and get terrible fuel econ for a while. If a couple more ppl say do it I will. It's running good strait away though. (By ear no worse then before, I would say better) Heaps more pressure in the fuel rail as well. I can tell because I had to let the pressure out before I changed the injectors and then I did my fuel filter after and let the pressure out again and it had heaps more pressure. Understand? Anyway the fuel filter was interesting. The colour of the fuel came out of the filter end was not good lol.

Can't wait to my O2 sensors arrive. That will be the last tune up item

If it was brown then its reasonably common according to my bro in law who is a mech in SA. Having said that I had someone on here tell me I was talking BS and because he never had the brown sludge in his filter, then apparently no one has.....

OBD2 fuel pumps are constant 49 psi pressure, so you would not have a change in fuel pressure at idle...if there was a noticeable reduction in pressure your engine would run poorly as injectors require full pressure to run effectively...
Put your new O2 sensors in then do the re-learn.

Has your 98 a fuel filter, AG (other than in the tank/with the pump assembly)!? Or are we talking about a different XJ...?
