Can't imagine your rat rod looking too 'rustic'. Your work is very precise.

Ha ha, a Ratrod it wont be!

Have thought of building one sometimes as could really let my imagination go as love re-purposing things.

I think the grille may need the horizontal bars to help make it look wider. I think if you have that much vertical material it may look a little taller than you'd want.

You probably won't know until you you start putting it all together.
