I think I have this problem sorted. It was doin my head in. I think I have had two problems at once. The speedo and tach are now working. The fuel gauge is another issue. Still getting an error code of the fuel gauge sender voltage high. I'm pretty sure it is the sender. Thanks JJ. I have ordered another fuel module. Stay tuned for more info but happy days.

AAhhh, don't we love the electrical gremlins, and a religous festival
At Christmas I thought I had solved a engine "miss" issue, a new fuel pump module & a "refreshed" IAC ... problem solved ...... A xmas miracle was declared hahaha not so fast or easy says Mr Jeep. The issue kept reappearing intermitterly .... Replace suspect IAC, no joy,
Tried many tips, diagnostics, hammers and swearing, could not track down the cause !!!!
On Friday, being 'Good' this humble owner climbs under the beasty to double check the plug on the O2 sensor with the thought it could be causing the issue, so a replacement could be sourced.
Well lo and behold, when the lead was unplugged and retrived in a upwards direction it was apparent that we had found the culprit !!! The plastic loom sheaf all melted .... interesting ..... break that away .... A 150mm long section of wiring (4 wires) had NO insulation at all !!! Bloke thought MMMMM and said rude words.

1/2 hour with some nice new wire and a solder iron ..... A Miracle !!!!

While at it the "repaired" wiring was re-routed AWAY from the exhaust

On the third day, IT rose from the dead

drove up to Taree with the alternator from my white one, and its battery, R&R the dud one from the black one in <60min, then drove it home from where there, having been left after it broke down when my son borrowed it over Easter.

Took a few questions to ascertain he had been driving with a red light on...would of fkd most people though...although I do have 2nd spare, that I bought off a dude that used to carry it as a spare when he did Outback trips...sensible fellow

how easy is it to replace brushes on these?
whats the external plastic box bolted on..is that the regulator?

I was thinking of doing the same thing at one stage.. mainly because i thought my alternator was making a bearing noise.
Found this rebuild kit on Ebay to do the bearings and brushes all in one hit....

really easy once you get it out and remove the back then take it to a auto sparky 15 bucks easy

Been fighting a vibe for a while. It came in slowly, and finally got to the point to where I couldn't ignore it anymore. I have a Tom Wood's DS in the rear, and the stock in the front. I know the stock one has been going for some time and I have another just waiting to be installed. I felt the rear was the vibration (and it shouldn't since I have a double Carden rear with an SYE), and I pulled the rear and drove around. Turns out I was right. The TW DS has limited range of motion with the CV joint and the CV rubs the yoke. So I put my other DS in the rear and that took care of the majority of the vibe. Took the TW DS and put in the front. This system works much better. Hopefully, I won't have to battle a vibe any longer...

I took my daughter (home from college for a few days) wheeling today. After I decided to run through the car wash. While waiting to enter, my radiator cap decided to let coolant flow past it all over the ground. It's hot enough to actually run the AC and I had it on. The temp was just over 210* F and didn't move at all. I replaced the cap, but am worried something else might be going on. Is it possible that it's just the cap? I think that's all since I did a coolant flush right before the snow fall. I should have replaced it then, but didn't. Thoughts?
