Default Pre-update FOB

Hi All,

I just dropped and smashed my remaining key fob, and I am wondering where I can get another one. Doesn't have to be OEM. Some of these things retail for exorbitant cost.

Cheers

Second hand ones come up from time to time on ebay. One of mine (update) didnt work because the rubber bit was damaged, so I got a good second hand one & put my circuit board in it. Its been good for a number of years. You would probably need to win lotto to get a new one from a stealer.

Install an aftermarket security system. I had to when my fob died. Annoying as hell but worth it. Apparently majority of jeep wreckers won't have them.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I rarely travel to the city, but I wouldn't be game to leave my uhf aerial on, or the car unlocked, especially in any car park. Having young kids and hands always full, it is convenient to use the key fob. Also, I have locked myself out of my car when my keyfob has had a dead battery and I used the central locking. Fortunately, I was not far from my spare key.

Just received my (EBay) used FOB. I tried to program it according to the manual, but it would not program. Is there anything that I should be reading between the lines? When I hold the lock button down on the fob for 5 secs, it does blink twice. However it will not cycle through lock/unlock.

Are these fobs year specific?
Is there any step I am missing or misreading?

E.g. Place ignition in OFF position. Does the key have to be in? A YouTube video shows a demo where this step does not involve putting the key in at all. However, the manual shows on page 9 that the OFF position can only be set if the key is entered and turned one position.

Another question I have is the step where you turn the ignition to "RUN" position and then press the lock button on Fob for 5 secs. I tried putting the key in the position where the check engine light comes on. The manual describes this ignition position two pages earlier in the diagram as "ON", not RUN.

Does RUN mean start the engine?

Is any kind of intervention required by the stealer?
