Default 2002 JEEP CHEROKEE KJ Limited - Any good?

I am a total beginner at 4WD. However, I was looking at starting with my family. I have looked at a Jeep Cherokee KJ Limited 2002 model. I had my mechanic say that the electrical isn't so good in Chryslers. Anyway, is this a good car to start as a novice? I love the look of it, not too big but not a city car. Maybe a 03 version is better? Ihave read thru the site and have not read anything really bad (probably a clue) Looking forward to posting and learning more. THANK YOU!

Get the one with the disk brakes in the rear - the 1st model had drum brakes

it depends on what sort of 4wding you plan to do as to weather the kj will suit

the Ltd will need to have bash plates added to protect underneath

The front suspension (IFS) limits the travel and thus the off road capablilty

have fun looking should be a few in the market now - not sure when the diesel first started but try and get one they are much better offroad and on fuel

Would be looking at basic off roading as I have no experience. Are those things you mentioned available through a dealer? Also, I have only seen one in my area, so not a big selection here (gosford) I have to trade in 2 cars as well, so need a dealer. Any suggestions of Good jeep dealers

I got the '04 3.7 petrol sport and the IFS does have it's limitations, you would surprise a lot of people where it can go and the IFS does have its advantages on road as far as ride and handling goes.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks for that. The renegade. Is this a better vehicle than the LTD ED?

It depends what you mean by being "better". The LTD has all the whistles and bells where the renegade is more basic but I think has a higher stance, I could be corrected on this though. If you go to the jeep web sit you will be able to find out exactly what the differences are.

As GMEMUD said, depends on what you mean by 'better' . There's no such thing really, but 'specification' is the thing that sets them appart, but not that far.

There is a big difference in what you get between say an 02-03 Sport (Basic as they come) and an 06 LTD (Top end of town). There's also going to be a significant difference in cost.

Good luck on your journey. The KJ is a strong reliable Jeep, and comfortable.
