Default KJ Central Locking Issues

Hi All,

New to the forum and I actually posted a question on the KJ Jeep I just purchased from the auctions on General Jeep Chat not realizing there was a forum on KJ Jeep so hopefully someone may have some answers to a baffling situation.

The KJ came with 2 keys but no remotes. I did not worry about this as I expected I could lock it just by using the key. However, this is not the case! If I lock it, only the drivers door button goes down and all other doors remain open. But if I get in the Jeep put the key in the ignition and either push the drivers door button down or push the central locking switch on the door all doors lock so clearly the actuators are working. If I get out of the Jeep and then push the door button down and close the door they remain closed and if I open the drivers door with the key the alarm goes off but this stops soon as I put the key in the ignition therefore the Jeep recognizes the key.

It is really weird and if anyone has any ideas on what could be the fault, I would be very pleased to hear it.

What year is it? Late models came with imobilisers (06,07), mine certainly does not have an alarm. The key is the imobiliser. If you have a separate, after market alarm system, I would suggest getting it removed, or replaced if you really think you need it. The vehicle should not have been sold without the alarm remotes.

Thanks for the reply. The Jeep is an 03 model and came as part of a package of goods I got from the auctions as I deal in new/used kitchen equipment and basically sold "as is, where is". Can't see a separate alarm as it is the horn that goes off when it is unlocked with the key also it is showing no error codes on my small scanner. Looks like a bit of trial and error to sort it out.
Regards,

You can pick up a set of keys with remotes and the little blue box that is matched to the keys, that will give you the central locking back . Like this, (Not mine )

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2002-200...4383.l4275.c10

I may have a spare set laying around. The blue box plugs into the big fuse box under the dash, I know it works as I have swapped one out myself.

Thanks mate for the reply and had seen the FOBS on eBay and they are certainly cheaper than what the local 4WD Wrecker wants. Will buy them and see how I go.

Default Problem Fixed

I called the local Jeep Wreckers in Hervey Bay and they said that all I need would be the RKE unit and matching remote. I purchased both (cheaper than eBay) and finally got around to installing the RKE on the weekend, reconnected the battery and it works!
