bonnet material?
Opened the bonnet ( or hood if you prefer) to check the oil for the first time. My car has 8800 km on the clock, and just heading off tomorrow for caravan trip to WA (from Vic), so thought I'd better check the oil - the level was well under the 'min' mark!
Anyway, while I was attending to this minor procedure, in the dark, I thought I'd put a magnetic light on the bonnet to see what I was doing, but no stick!
Is the bonnet made of plastic, or what?

Hope you didn't fill your oil up. To check your oil you need to lift the dip stick 4 or 5 inches, wait for a few seconds , push back down and then remove to check. It will always read low if you just pull it out.

Yep, the worst fucking dipstick in history. Something so simple, so completely hopeless in actual use.

Yep, break the seal to let air escape, the oil will move up to the proper level, push the dipstick back down and pull it out to get the reading. Don't pull it out too far at first or it will drag oil up the tube and mess up the reading.

I lifted the bonnet today for the first time since the showroom because I wanted to check for a wiring harness location and UHF cable run. I noticed a missing rubber seal on the front edge. Is this normal or does everyone else have it. Clearly looks like it is suppose to be there to help with dust and more so, vibration. See pic.
