They say they just use standard filters well proof is in the pudding
I was changing my oil at 15,000 intervals and cleaning the K&N panel believe me its dirty at that odometer reading just clean it re oil it ready to go
I don't go off road or beach but I have driven it up and down the east coast of Australia in all types of weather and temperatures
This is the second time I have had a K&N panel filter in a diesel vehicle
I cant say its faster or more powerful as I have a GDE tune and 3 inch catback exhaust
I did get from Avenel Caltex 180 out of Melbourne to Caltex F3 Wyong on one tank of fuel and from there to the gold coast filled the fuel till the top of the neck each time

You have seriously caught yourself out !!
Its less than 130 km from Melbourne to Avenel. I drive that section of the Hume every few weeks.
I guess we should apply a similar factor to other claims in this & other posts.
If your K&N filters are so good, the engine manufactures would be happy to see people fit them.
My own experience includes having a tech rep for K&N filters show up when I had a rep from CAT at home. The K&N guy basically forgot how to speak English when he worked out who he was talking to. I have about a dozen diesels in various applications & given what I have been made aware of, I would not go near a K&N. I am also aware of 2 large transport operators, both with more than 30 prime movers that also would not go near K&N.
An oil moist filter element will become very dirty looking very quick with soot. Its the abrasive particles that dont show as black gunk on the filter that cause problems. Your oil change interval probably has more to do with the type of driving you do, not the air filter you use.
If the major diesel engine manufacturers dont like K&N filters, why would anyone seriously consider using them?
Much of your sprooking for K&N sounds a bit like piglet on a certain brand of accessories.
