2017 towbar recall??

I'm tossing up whether to change my mopar bar for a HR bar. I've got a few 4wd trips next month - I'm not towing but expect I'll have to snatch a few friend's bogged landcruisers out.

I'd planned to use my recovery hitch for this but given the recall I assume this would not be safe.

My '18 overland came with a recovery hook at the rear - apologies as I am not mechanically minded but does anyone know if this is attached to the towbar or would it be ok to use?

I am interested in why some seem to have the Rear Hook retained and others removed. My MY18 Trailhawk has no hook, and I know a couple of other are the same. Surely there is nothing unique to the rear of the TH that requires the removal of the Hook. I will asking to see if it can be refitted as part of whatever the solution ends up being for the recall.

HR towbar has a little more space around it than Mopar bar, however I like it as it gives more room to plug in and access pins.

Very well finished, doesn't rattle.

Comes with rated shackles.

Did lose the recovery hook though - got it back off the dealer - be interesting to see if it is interchangeable to front of car.

Mine is a July 17 build Laredo with off road adventure group & was fitted with recovery hook.

Will have to purchase recovery insert for towbar.

The Trailboss bar that I had fitted is pretty much identical to HR but slightly cheaper. I had the brand checked out by a mate who is an engineer at Al-Ko and his report was that they come out of the same factory as HR and are built to same specs. It is well finished, with threaded locking pin and rated shackles. As with Chuck 2’s there is a little more room around it than the Mopar but that’s fine. I was advised against fitting a BTA bar as it sits lower than the other options.

Thanks for the information reklaw1947 and Chuck2, they both look good and I agree the little bit of extra room would be handy.

I wonder if only the GC's that had a dealer fitted towbar come with the recovery hook given that Phoenie77's TH didn't have one. Makes me more suspicious that I shouldn't use the recovery hook given the current recall. I'll contact FCA on Monday and ask .... I won't hold my breath though

Just to confirm mine is a dealer fitted OEM unit that doesn’t have have the hook, perhaps some dealers don’t bother to refit and some do

Can anyone that has had their "recalled towbar" removed and refunded, tell me if the wiring was left in place or was that taken out as well? I eventually had to tell FCA that I did indeed have a faulty tow bar, no thanks to them.... I discovered it through this forum.

Maybe they should have sent a letter to all the people who purchased the affected vehicle even if they didn't have a towbar. That way nobody gets missed... like me.

Yes, I had the bar only removed and the wiring loom and plug left. Nunawading Jeep provided paperwork to show bar was removed and also a separate document showing value of bar in purchase price of vehicle ($1000). I forwarded all paperwork including sale invoice to FCA and had money in account in about 2 weeks.
