Nice thought but once the weight of the wheel comes off the carrier the strut would lift the arm back up!!!! Which would make it tricky to get the spare back on the carrier.

This is absolutely true!

It was our original intent to try this approach, however, we discovered two very important things while prototyping:
1) The size and strength of the gas strut needed would be very difficult to compress, not to mention, very expensive.
2) You would need multiple strut options for different size and weight tire and wheel combinations.

With the tire winch concept, whatever your tire size and weight combination may be, you still have a perfectly controlled decent and ascent.

Not worried about lifting it back up once attached to the carrier(I'm a heavy set fat bastard), just letting it drop in a controlled manner to the ground would be nice.

Thanks, it sounds like you guys put some thought into it then. Looking forward to some pricing details. Another question, can we purchase the bar and then get the tyre carrier at a later date, one reason for this is to keep the seperate items under $1000AUD(not including shipping) which saves us on paying extra import taxes. Also what mods are required to the exhaust to fit the winch, and will it accept a standard size winch?

thats a nice looking bar, only thing i would like to see on the bars with a tyre carrier that open with the door is something to hold the stupid door open. that would be mega handy.
