Fuel economy: my 4 dr isn't overloaded with heavy parts, but I don't get less than 15ltrs/100. It's usually 16. It's the only thing that I think is a let-down. In this day and age we should be getting better fuel economy than that. I use normal 91 petrol. I don't ever use premium.

I had a defender 130 and made the switch. I now have a 2012 2 door JK. When i moved to Sydney the 130 was a pain in th he butt to get around in. As people have mentioned the fuel consumption is the only thing i wish was better. On the highways its actualy good but short start stop driving its in the 14/15l per 100. Its so much better around town though, the doors seal and the heater and AC works really well. The new 3.6l petrol engine with auto is the pick, the diesel is not much better than the petrol and has higher service cost and when it comes out of warrenty parts will cost more as well.

Your comments JKLamb, of driving a Def130 in a city on a daily basis is what's primarily driving my reasons to consider the switch. I use basement car parks almost daily but still want a my fourbie to have real capability.

I finally received my my15 rubicon last Friday and I can honest,y say it's chalk and cheese comparing it to my mates 2007 jk sport. I ordered an auto rubicon with leather interior and it's amazing to drive. I have been driving my mates 2007 sport 4 door for the last month waiting for the jk, and can honestly say the models are miles apart. New one so much more refined in every way. So far so good I'm getting 13lt around town but my car is not even a week old yet and has barely 200kms on the clock. I'm sure those figures will get better

I suggest fuel consumption will go up not down, as you add mods.

A certain amount of this comes down the the vehicle being new. Replace all the bushes and bearings and suspension and the old one should in theory drive the same. Obviously gearbox and engine make a difference too. Glad to know you think it's better, I will update eventually.

You're comparing two different spec vehicles and one with 8 years of wear and tear. For the extra you paid for new, I could turn a 2007 sport into a 37 inch tyre wearing monster truck with Dana 60s and 4" of lift. Apples vs oranges.

New is great if you lease, care about warranty and don't want to mod. For everything else, second hand is better all things considered with the JK model. If you consider like for like, the only big difference is the newer petrol engine. Chassis, transfer and standard suspension trim remained relatively unchanged.
