Default Inverter install questions

Some Qs for the Aus Jeepers:

1. Anyone recommend a place around Melbourne to have an inverter professionally installed in a MY14 JKU?

2. Anything better than the "pure sine wave" type inverter that JayCar has for sale? I noticed they don't let me relocate the inverter switch without voiding the warranty. I badly need one that allows for this.

3. Anyone replaced the stock battery with a higher capacity one? Or is it better to have a separate battery just for the inverter? In the latter case, is it a lot of work to have the second battery charge from the vehicle?

4. Any other tips?

Thanks in advance.

G

I've just replaced a faulty ABR-Sidewinder pure sine inverter with one from Matsons. Price was good from Batteries Direct.

I'm not sure if the switch can be move on these though. You should be able to switch the inverter remotely using a relay if need be.

I have an Anderson plug on my inverter. There is an Anderson plug fitted next to the passengers seat that can be used for it. Also the Anderson plug in the back for the camper can be used if the inverter is needed at the back. When the camper is set up there are plenty of Anderson plugs in it for the inverter. With the camper set up I have ~ 360 w of solar cells & ~ 200AH of batteries so the inverter can be used in it easily. IIRC its 600w continuous 1200 w peak.

The jaycar units have a very long switch that can be mounted anywhere (size of a 5 cent coin) that is a simple on or off remote switch for the unit.
I run one in my jk and love it, Never had a problem with it and the largest one first perfectly in the rear tub under the carpet

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking at this model range but dont see a switch that can be relocated:

Unless I keep the inverter switch ON all the time and have a remote switch at the output and/or another at the input. The JayCar people advised not to have just one just at the input since it'll cause a spike when turning on and damage connected equipment [emoji53]

Curious as to what you plan on running off the inverter? I had a Jaycar PSW one which I think the switch went. I have since bought a MSW one and have had no issues running the laptop off it which is main reason I even have an inverter.
