Default Rover Park Australia Day Long Weekend 2016

Trip Report: Australia Day Long Weekend at Rover Park NSW 23rd to 26th January, 2016

Trip Leader: Brendan Mulheran

Jeeps attending:10

Trips run: Easy to Hard with everything in between

Campfire rating - Not our best effort due to wet wood, but good fire chat

A group of 9 Jeeps met at Aratula to convoy the 3 hours to Rover Park where we met up with James and Jenni who had arrived Friday evening and secured our camping spot right beside the amenities. After everyone set up their tent, camper or caravan we headed out of the trails, with the possible chance of rain from the west. This trip saw the debut of our new Hydro Blue 2016 Rubicon.

Our easy/medium run for the afternoon turned difficult when we reached a rather steep slippery hill and had to wait for a Patrol and an FJ to get to the top, meanwhile the clouds became blacker and it was dark enough to have the lights on, fortunately the heavens didn’t open and we made it up the hill. James was just practicing some dance moves while he waited!!!

In an attempt to ensure we didn’t leave David and Vanessa behind in the stock JK we had to get creative, I tried lifting it by hand in vain! After some great spotting from James(great to have you back) we decided to snatch him using 2 straps that had to be looped together with a stick, nice find Andrew. We eventually all got out of there and headed back to camp.

As usual there was good company around the campfire at a park with excellent hot showers, a camp kitchen and plenty of undercover area with games for the kids. The kids, big and small enjoyed the variety of nature and animals at Rover Park.

There was plenty of wheeling on the weekend, including Ouch Canyon, Bayside Twist and lots of fun in the comp area. We had a good run out to the old mine with all the ladies having a drive. This park has plenty for all levels of wheeling and we should keep in on our annual calendar for a long weekend each year. A good time was had by all and the only damage for the whole weekend was some witness marks on Greg and Jackie's colour coded left rear guard from Bayside twist biting back. There are plenty more photos to be seen on the Facebook Page thanks to official photographer Jackie.

Until next time, enjoy the trails.
