Default Teraflex d30 axle over gusseting?

So my front axle is bent I'm pretty sure and I am trying to gather as much information as I can in regards to either:
A: replace my front axle with a Teraflex replacement
Or
B: have my original axle gusseted and welded.
Has anyone had to make this decision before and what did you find out? I'm trying to figure out if my original axle is weakened enough already that gusseting and welding will maybe only be a temporary fix and in the long run I may have been better off spending a few more $$$. Or if getting the whole new axle is a straight up overkill.
I'm currently liaising with Vic at SBR and being as helpful as ever but I am wondering what decisions others have had to make.

Any help would be great
Cheers Luke

Hi Bud,

I bent mine some time ago and had it sleeved and gusseted and very happy with the work. I was going buy a tera housing for it (as i was concerned about the strength) and the bloke that did the work for me told me not to bother as the sleeving and gusetting will give you the same strength. Onviously there are more benefits to a tera housing than just that but thought I would throw my 5 cents in for what its worth.
Cheers bud
James

Cheers fella,
I am leaning a bit more towards the gusseting mainly due to cost especially if there are no real benefits as such like a " you NEED a teraflex axle because………".
Unless anyone can tell me why I NEED one other than the looks?
Cheers Luke

Putting sleeves INSIDE a small diameter tube doesn't contribute as much to the strength as you might expect. Common sleeve kits are about 30 % stronger than a stock axle tube on actual bend testing. Its not how much metal you add its the outside diameter that really matters

The Tera axle tubes are slightly larger diameter than a D60 ( ok only a few mm but.... ), the center is much larger and better braced, the "c"'s are massive, the drivers side top control arm mounts is much stronger than stock, the lower control arm mounts are reversed to stop arm bindup, the bracketry is significantly thicker than stock.... are you getting the picture ?

Have a look at a stock one beside a Tera and the arguments over.

The big questions is have you already done your centre? lockers and gears? i was thinking of replacing mine with a tera housing but was told dont bother,(by someone that knows) as he has never bent a diff that was tubed and gusseted. if you have already done your centre it becomes a expensive changeover, but if you havent i would go the tera housing with all the fruit
