Default AX15 Gear Issues

Hey Guys,

I hope you are all well in this Saturday evening.

So, driving to my mother in laws birthday and I can't get the car into gear!
I pull over, manage to get first and keep moving. Then it happens again and was having none of it.

When the engines off, I can put it in gear and start it and it's hops forward even if the clutch is all the way down. Still can't change fear whilst the engine is on.

Any advice on this? Is my clutch knackersd? Do we think it's a master/slave cylinder.

As always, I appreciate any help. Sorry I seem to be asking a lot lately!

Thanks guys, enjoy your night! Oh it's a 1996 2.5TD XJ

Probably clutch hydraulics. Make sure you have fluid. If you have fluid, its probably the master/slave, easiest fix is just to replace the lot. Its a sealed unit. I have resealed but its a pain to do as the seals are not a standard size.

ThanksnLaynack you have a part number at all? No worries if not I'll dig it up somewhere. I've found one on line which is like £250 but doesn't say the part number, pretty pricey but if needs must.

Cheers

Best to start with the easy one first : check oil level in the small hydraulic oil reservoir . Otherwise like layback sugested could be the master/slave or worst could be clutch (pressure plate or bearing).

As I am going on holiday on Saturday I may have to take it too the local Clutch experts and hope its not TOO costly ££££££

Would the clutch have plenty of pressure and pushback if it were a master/slave issue do you think?

Normally the peddle requires little force to push down when the hydraulics fail. When mine started to fail I pumped the peddle a lot & could get the clutch to sort of work a bit. It was the only way I could get it into gear.
