Default Sye Help

ok so atm im running 1" suspension lift in my TJ and happy with it but obviosuly i want to go bigger.

ive been told so many different things by so many people i dont no what to believe.

how many " of lift before i need a SYE, i want to run 2" susp and 2" body but dont no if that will snap uni joints or destroy my tailshaft?

and for the body lift. motor mount lift would be needed with a 2" ?

Help appreciated

Nick.

you'll also probably want to go away from anything bigger than a 1" body lift.... the higher the BL the longer the bolts... which is bad. then you need a transfer case shifter bracket, longer fuel tank filler pipe etc.

3" suspension, maybe RE3.5?
1" BL

either way you'll need the SYE and new tail shaft.

Said it many times before but I'm goona say it again IMHO a SYE is recommended STOCK & the Jeep bean-counter that convinced the engineers that a Slip Yoke is a good idea deserves a big kick up the butt.
You can get away with upto 3-4" lift without a SYE - but I'll never recommend it cause I hate the slip yoke so much.
Ahhh yes I still remember limping hope with a broken transfer case and the extra cost - thanks jeep bean-counter....(at the time I had 2" lift & 31"s with a heavy right foot)....
A body lift has no impact on the requirement of a SYE as it does not lift the driveline. But it can stretch the t/case shift linkage - especially with a t/case drop as will (ie no SYE).
In my personal experience I found with 2" BL the body mounts were more exposed and during rock hoping they were more prone to snagging/damage, also IMHO they look a little ugly.

it will be money well spent..

as for the body lift... why do you want one?
i would just bumpstop it to suit the tyres, you will still have ample flex if you go for a good kit like rubicon express 3.5
