Angry Air bag went off!! WTF???

I am so pissed off right now!

I just came back from a 10km drive in my 2003 Grand Limited.
I had my 6 month old Son in his capsule in the back and wife in the front. I was driving.
We were on a bitumen road in a 60k zone and I noticed the air bag light come on the dash.
I had just enough time to think oh great this is gonna be one of those annoying electrical problems everyone tells me I am going to have with a Jeep and the next thing BANG! the left side curtain airbag deploys! next to my son and wife! and the word BANG doesn't describe the noise!! our ears are still ringing!!

WHAT THE F###??????!!!!???

Has anyone ever heard of this???

What recourse do I have?

What if it had been the drivers Air bag and I was at highway speed?? or my wife was driving???

This is very bad.

Well I am glad you guys are well. I would get in touch with the Dept of infrastructure and transport at this link & raise a defect against Jeep Australia

http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...s/defects.aspx

And also Jeep Australia on (03)86980200.

I remember a while back there being a recall on this with the 2002/2003 liberty.

Cheers for that. of course they only have an after hours message at Jeep.

Our Jeep is parked in the back yard now. Not game to move it! and I told my wife to NOT drive it.

Wow! That's scary stuff, would not like it to happen to anyone. You got pics? And did any white powder stuff come out of the bag?

Hi ,
Here are some pictures. you can see there is no impact or reason for the bag to have deployed. My wife and I thought we had been T Boned from the noise.

I work in the Automotive repair industry and I have never heard of this happening! I sure hope it is a once off. This sort of thing could cause a very serious accident.

No white powder from the airbag as such but certainly a horribly taste in the back of our throats from whatever they use to deploy them.

I am just glad we were only in the suburbs and not on the freeway. My wife usually drives this car with our little boy so it was amazing it happened when I was driving.
