Consider switching to Penrite HPR-5, It is the same spec as enviro but is full zinc so it has better anti-wear properties. Its a 229.5 where enviro is a 229.51, the 1 indicates its a low ash and low zinc that is suited for DPF's.

I contacted Penrite and they recommended it to me once they knew I didn't have a DPF.

$500 for a new DPF. $10,000 for a new motor.. I think using the oil with extra zinc is worth the trade off.

Engine Oil Viscosity (2.8L Diesel Engines)

For vehicles equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), 5W–30 ESP fully synthetic, low ash oil that meets DaimlerChrysler Material Standard MS-11106 must be used.

For vehicles not equipped with a DPF, 0W-40 ESP fully synthetic oil that meets DaimlerChrysler Material Standard MS-10725 may be used.

I got the above from an online service manual.

For non DPF I can only find Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 that complies to MS-10725.

Wonder if anyone was using that oil and had a bearing go?
