Default air bags of shocks?

Hi,

Ive got an 04 WJ witch i'm using to travel the country, we are carrying a fair load in the back and the old suspension is getting the 120 thousand mark and as I've gathered was less then brilliant to begin with. i'm looking to create a more stable ride under load as well as improving the general ride both on and off road as it is quite bouncy with or without load. i have seen a few airbag systems available that seem like a good idea as they allow independent adjustment quickly meaning i could level the car out better when carrying uneven load. the other options would appear to be either new shocks and springs or simply new springs. would it be worth upgrading the springs alone? or if i decided to go with new shocks would it also be a good idea to get airbags as well or will i get away with the airbags on the current set up?

I got Monroe load shocks see:

I know two others that installed these this year and are happy all towing big heavy caravans.
At $120.00 and real easy to install they are hard to beat. Air bags and local standard shocks will be more $$$$.
My rear shocks @ 118000 klm were shot.
We carried on and replaced the front struts and HD Anderson springs front and back.
Suggest you try just the load shocks they will probably do the job for you without anything else.

I have a good set of springs and dampers on my WJ and it rides well, and carries a load well. This is my preferred option if you are going to invest some dollars.

Either way you are probably need to replace the suspension bushes as you are likely to start having some death wobble problems and may have some other less desirable handling such as a wobbly rear end.

Id go with quality springs and shocks, I like the adjustable ranchos.
If you find its still a little soft get airbags that go inside the coils.
I wouldnt try to carry any load through the shock mounts, they are not very strong.

The stock tokico (correct me if I'm wrong pls) shocks are lucky to last 80k - bean counters and all that - so you are due. I run Koni's but I hear good reports from Bilsteins too (and Rancho's). Coil-rites helped my towing enormously and when I'm not towing, the stock springs are still pretty comfy.

Do the shocks first, then bags if you still aren't happy.

(then a 4" long arm.....heeehee)

On my WH GC CRD
I have King springs bilstein shocks Firestone air bags and Jeepin by al front upper control arms drives like a car
Shocks cost $600 from US including shipping
Air bags cost $89 from US $40 for shipping
king springs $300 au direct from king springs here on the Gold Coast
Upper control arms $450 from US $50 shipping
I experimented with eibach springs and adjustable upper ball joints first
Wasted my money should have gone with king springs and upper control arms straight away already done 70,000 k,s on the set-up also mainly country driving very happy
