Nope the 265 is taller.

The first number is the width you are correct. The second number is the percentage of the width

So for instance.

265/70/r17. Add the % sign to the second number 70%

265mm by 70%
265 x .70= 185.5mm
Now the 185.5mm is the height of the tyre on one side of the rim to the tread. There is where a lot of confusion sets in. There is a top and a bottom if you take a vertical slice of the tyre.

265/70/r17
265 x .70= 185.5 how tall the tyre is from wheel to tread
(185.5x 2)tyre top and bottom+ 17"rim

Converter. 185.5x2= 371mm

371mm = 14.60 inches
14.60" tyre + 17"rim = 31.60" total tyre and rim. Hope this helps.

Well written, someone already pointed that out to me, one of those " I knew that " moments, I just blame it on age. Lol

Tyre size calculators make the job easier.

I use this one:

$1600 for the five mounted and balanced at Avanti tyre in Rockingham. So far they're great. The guys there were great and beat the best price I found. The only time the hum is when I'm sittin on 100kph. Barely noticeable withe the radio off. Once I'm on 110kph they're totally silent. I swear they're at's.

They look great mate - nice one!

Just be a little cautiously optimistic of the lack of noise whilst they are new - my Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs were completely silent when new, but after about 15,000km they developed a nice little hum, mostly at lower speeds. At 100-110km/h they are still pretty good though. Still, it's not as bad as I thought they could be and not as bad as the BFG A/T's that I replaced.
