Petrol engines dont produce the volume of carbon particles that diesels do unless there is a serious mixture problem, so the blocked manifold problems are not seen. Deleting the EGR & so the exhaust from the inlet manifold will do a much better job. You do need to watch EGT's though.
Your asking makes me think you may have some other issue. Best fix a problem rather than put a band-aid on it.
Nah... good thing i don’t have issues wth mine yet. Nothing much to do around here on my days off.... just tinkering stuff and looking for stuff i can do to my jk.

It can't hurt though as long as you ensure that the catch can doesn't restrict the venting airflow, it doesn't vent to atmosphere and you empty it regularly enough so it doesn't barf a bunch of oil into the intake or back into the venting line when you are on in incline.

If you want to try one, I suggest making up something DIY and simple, using something like a pump or compressor filter, that allows you to easily see that the PCV is still working normally.
maybe i’ll try something DIY or the cheap working ones. but it wouldn’t hurt my engine having one right? is there really a benefit in the long run?
i’ve read somewhere that while petrol engines degrade over time, putting a catch can will be beneficial.

or is this just totally a waste of money?

It's enough of a waste of money for me to suggest spending the money on any other DIY projects first. Put it this way - if it's benefits and value outweighed the risks and costs, engines would come with them from the factory.

Here is an interesting engineer's perspective on the whole catch can issue. Worth a watch considering the Pentastar is not direct injection.

Also keep in mind that, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, the early Pentastar engines didn't use EGR.

Regards,
Rod.

I have that T-shirt!

So, the TL,DL I get from that is:

Usually unnecessary, unless you have done something to cause issues with excess oil vapour or carbon from EGR, or have an air leak throwing off the MAF sensor.

But what he doesn't say, is that they are a bad thing. (Except if improperly fitted & cause a problem of their own by pressurising the sump.)
