Default coolant

gees i know this has been done to death but i can't for the life of me get a straight answer

im abut to replace the water pump in my wk2 3.6l and the specs call for HOAT

ive purchased OAT, and rung Penrite for there input. they are telling me to use a green coolant, and yes i know the colour is dye only.

so the OAT i have is purple and Penrite are saying well it should be ok but my call. i purchased the OAT as it was the only one where jeep was recommended and it is for 12+ model years

easy to return i know but when i google HOAT coolant i get a wide variety of options and when i look closer no specific claim that the coolant IS HOAT

im confused, even my ramblings are probably confusing

hellppppp please

Edit: sorted, so i went back to super cheap and had another look and found the HOAT, its green, previously i had read that one at leat should look for the same colour ( yes i know its only dye) as what's in the vehicle, anyway now i can rest easy, i hope.

The worst thing to do is to mix them. With a little heat they can form a jell when it then cools. This often happens in the heater radiator & you end up with cold feet!

So long as you give the system a good flush you should be good ..... What exactly is the colour in it now ?????
Basically stay with the colour thats in it, if it looks a bit murky then flush and reload with new stuff, probably a good idea anyway if you don't know how long its been there, I go more for age than KMs and either buy pre mix or use decent distilled water as a tap water top up is poison.... I prefer Nulon or Penrite as always available.

With the diesels, Jeep used HOAT in my11-12 from the MY13 OAT was used but for how long before they changed again I don’t know. I would assume (ass out of U & me) the petrols are the same. The dealers price for the concentrate is quite competitive .

HOAT and OAT are not compatible and Penrite’s OAT is also not compatible with Jeeps so they informed me, so a good flush out and use something that is readily available

So now I’ve stirred the mud up is that clearer lol

I had my 2012 GC diesel coolant changed in NZ by a radiator specialist ,asked him to put in hoat ,said they now use a product that covers both Oat and Hoat.
Go figure! The vague and wrong advice that some of these companies like Castrol Penrite and Nulon have /are giving does not me 100% confidence that what they are stating is correct in some cases!I know myself and others on this forum have had to advise them that their products are not correct for the vehicle!

I try to match the specs for all fluids instead of relying on some manufacturer recommendations, they are not always up to date or even correct by a long shot, jeep changing their mind doesn't help either............ Just intruiging why they suddenly changed many engine coolant grade around the same time bit like oil specs.... I also read somewhere awhile ago a suspicion the head blow outs in 3.6 was due to coolant eating gaskets but sounded a bit strange and I don;t pay much attention to that engine, then again.... maybe why OAT is now the go ????

what makes all this worse is that when i had the LH head replaced 4 years ago i don't know what coolant the dealer used to refill

if you take the argument that the HOAT was the problem with early 3.6l s cracking the cylinder head, or was it a manufacturing defector was it badly seating valves, or was it the head gasket that was affected by the HOAT in which case why one side only.

when mine was replaced i wanted to see the old head but the dealer was full of excuses why that was not possible, already packed for shipment back to HO, yeah right.

And then to confuse the issue further later 3.6l s from around 2013 on are still reporting head issues and yet they are all using OAT

gees where do you go, when did toping up the radiator become a lifes study

don't answer that, i know, when we moved away from good old gas guzzling cast iron blocks and heads

best i can do is flush it out and use HOAT

cross fingers and hope for the best i guess
