Default 1999 XJ Cherokee Diesel Coolant Leak - VIDEO

I'll need to look at the jeep tomorrow To double check I've done two water pumps (now onto 3rd) and I have not ever has any trouble from there. It looks like there might be a thread on it so perhaps something has come loose and dropped out. Don't quote me on it as from the pic it's looks only like there is 1 thread in there.

On a side note check your fan belt there looks like a few cracks in it. I think a replacement sets you back about $20

I have taken a photo, the water pump is circled in blue, the round hole were the water is spraying out of it circled in red. Can anyone tell me what this is, is it part of the engine block? Can anyone compare with there XJ's, should there be a cap over this hole?

Its a Welch plug!

Oh & your fan belt needs replacing too!

That is where a welsh plug is. What coolant are you using?
The belt is cracked, replacement will be more like $60.

Thanks guys! Never heard of a welsh plug before!

I flushed and replaced the coolant not long after i got the jeep, about a year ago, as the coolant was lucky pretty rusty coloured and i had no record of when it was done before that. I replaced it with some ethylene-glycol stuff i had in the shed, it may have been in the shed for a couple of years to be honest.

What is the best course of action here, flush the coolant again with some brand new stuff and hope that fixes it, or get the plugs replaced. If i replace, should i replace them all of just that one. On that note, can anyone confirm if 4723 228 is the correct part number, or it one of these (4778 887, 4863 769, 4864 606)

You normally just replace the leaking one. If you had the heads off you would replace them all.
It wont seal up.
If you go to any parts place they should be able to sell you the $2.00 plug. Just measure the diameter.
It sounds like the previous owner just filled it up with tap water.

Its a wide serp belt.
If you can get a good one (not Chinese) for $20 let us know where. Supercrap dont have them, repco does, bursons probably do. Because it wider than most, 8V IIRC, they load the price a bit.
