Default 1998 XJ sport problem

Hello all, this is my first post, love the forum,so my problem is this...

I recently replaced my heater core on the Jeep, I managed to pull everything out ok and remove the heater ok too, I then put the heater core back in, and I thought at the time it would be a good idea to run the car to test for any leaks, had the Jeep running for about half an hour, no leaks so de died to start putting things back together, while putting the switches for the rear wiper/cigarette lighter back in, I noticed they had power, even with ignition off, even the rear wiper starting moving lol.

I then tried to start the Jeep and all it does is turn over, I seem to have lost all dash lights ane the remote for the door locks doesn’t work either. There was also an old Nokia mobile phone system patched into the cig lighter wires, I have disconnected them, however I forgot to put insulation tape around the joins, sowhen I was moving the switches back into their position, it raced out on the shifter, so I’m thinking that’s not good either, any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks Joe

There is a 12volt socket which is constant power cig lighter is only power when ignition, the rest should be dead. Could you key be on the bottom accessory point, not off?

" it raced out on the shifter, so I’m thinking that’s not good either, "

Do you mean arched? Sparked?

In the Factory Service Manual, there is a chapter in Electrical called "Ground Locations"

check both sides of every fuse in PDC and under dash with a test light

does your vehicle have spark when it turns over?

can you hear the fuel pump prime for 3 secs when key is initially turned to run position ?
