Default Oils they is changing.........

I know this has been done to death, couldn't find anything recent about engine oil, so forgive me............

Seems Nulon has discontinued my oil of choice being; Nulon Full Synthetic 10W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil which was a CJ-4/E9 grade, my rig seemed to like it, has been replaced by Nulon Apex+ 10W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel which is CK4/E9 grade but is semi syn, can't find any specs on the stuff and wondering if semi syn would really matter anyway, other choice would be Penrites ENVIRO+ 10W-40 (FULL SYN.) E9/CK4 ......... just bluddy expensive stuff..............

PS: looks like the new Nulon might get a run, Supercheap has it on special so long as my local has it in stock....

It's recommended to avoid semi-synthetic (and full mineral) oils on DPF vehicles, as the minerals create additional ash in the DPF, which can cause issues with more frequent or incomplete burns and completely clogging the DPF in the worst-case.

I have wondered about that but a lot of CJ4 grade oils in 10W40 seem to be DPF compatable but are semi syn......... besides CJ4 and e( DPF compatable is part of the deal...............

Decision can wait I just found I still have a 10lt keg of the old Nulon 10W 40 so all good, next service about August..... so good till Nov.

The 'full mineral' has nothing to do with added minerals.
Basically, mineral oil comes from primary distillation of crude oil to produce lube oil feedstock. Synthetic oil is made from a petrochemical feedstock. The synthetic oil is made from a much smaller range of hydrocarbon's. Both types of oils use a range of Paramins to achieve the required properties.
The synthetic feedstock is produced in a way to reduce cracking (oil thinning) & polymerization (sludge formation). The catalyst's in a DPF will aid polymerization & is used for that in the petrochemical industry.

Well thats a shame, i just bought some of the Nulon heavy duty diesel on your recommendation and tried it in my my gc.
Ran really well !!
This cj4 thing is becoming problematic trying to find it.
I gave been using a oil that the local jeeps dealers stock, Lubrimaxx , great oil but it is only c3 rated but the jeeps been running on it for 3 years without any issues.
I was told Valvoline do a 5w-40 fully synth rated cj4 but not sure.

It funny as alot if the c3 oils stated their all dpf and egr ect compliant.

Thanks layback40...kinda...you just reinforced me thinking I was dumb...I'm sure I am after reading that....cant get my brain around it....have read it over n over....Im pretty sure Im not getting the right answers from what Im understanding...in Pauline's words..."Please explain"....is it that the elements in the DPF are taking the hydrocarbons from the Mineral Oils producing 'more' polymers (sludge) in the DPF creating restriction ???.....I know its better to keep my mouth shut and be thought an idiot, rather than open my mouth and prove it...but...curiousity is killing this cat
