I have a Nighthawk plugged into the same sort of aerial in the van which I can extend to about 4ft above the roof, my phone is WiFi call capable so calls will run through the Nighthawk when the phone has no signal ...................... bugga just remembered the extension lead is at home...
Probably can use Boost. Its owned by Telstra & is the only Telstra using reseller that uses the full Telstra network.

No I just use a mobile broadband router called a Nighthawk... Son In Law has a Cel Fi system as he spends a lot of time on the road and finds it good for when camping but is surprised my set will pick up the signal just as good most times in camp, if I left the aerial up on the van I could still use it from the tug....
Mrs D gets annoyed because her phone isn't WiFi Call capable so can't make calls through our Internet connection..

The Cell Fi units are Telco specific so if you are Telstra you need one for Telstra due to each Telco having different freq, hence you need a phone that will work on all bands that your Telco uses.... Basically if your phone can use Bands B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, and B28 your on the money, N bands are 5G which be lucky to find outside the big smoke. 3G bands will shut down next year..

You will have to look at your phone specs to see what bands/freq it uses also all phones wanting to use the Cel Fi must be the same Network.....

So a nighthawk is a totally different kettle of fish to a celfi unit . A cel-fi unit is a signal booster and really is only good for making phone calls .
a nighthawk is a modem and will in most situations out perform a cel-fi when it comes to data .

I have a cel-fi to have the ability to make phonecalls in a lot of areas where others drop out .

If i want data i whip out the starlink kit .

in remote areas both systems are going to be limited to the nearest tower . Both stop working at a certain point .

Where a cel-fi beats a nighthawk is by being able to grab a connection that may be almost non-existent and boost that signal turning 1 bar into 4-5 bars

When needing a good signal its all about the aerial and location, my van set up will get a better signal than the SiL's Cel Fi because my aerial is higher and thats the thing its all about location, my Nighthawk WiFi is only available to those logged on, the Cel Fi is only a signal re transmitter and is available to anyone who is in the envelope...... Cel Fi can be used by your phone to Hotspot for data to run your laptop or other gear or a mobile broadband modem will connect ..

If your really techo and know where the tower is you can even lock on to it with a yagi aerial which will give you even greater range for signal reception but a normal stick job on a vehicle unless your on a hill is 50k at most even though they say your good for 100km, my best has been about 40kms with bush around and the aerial about 15 ft above ground.....

If your looking for the nearest tower when travelling or checking camp sites use this site to find it..... https://www.rfnsa.com.au/home Google earth using the elevation module is great for showing if any hills in the way, its surprising how many flat areas aren't.
