The only recommended oil you should use apparently.. VERY hard to get hold of in Australia.. whereas in the US ..it practically comes out of the tap!.
There are other that meet the spec... You just have to put in the work to track down which they are. I did a few years ago, but can't remember what I used off hand. It has to do with the bronze bushings in the synchros, I heard. They don't like it without the special Mercedes mix to the spec. (Yes, it's a Merc gearbox.)

Got 4 bottles in the garage now (just rechecked) and change it every 2 years or so on my 2007 built 2.8CRD
The dealership changed hands couple of years back and the rest of the stock was sent to another in my area as the new owners didn't want it.
Think I'll go on the 'hunt' and see if I can grab some more

Don't suppose you're on the same clutch after that many KM's / miles ?
Heck makes me think why did I move to Australia...oh yeah.. the weather is 1000times better ...
Over here I only found one dealer out of x4 I checked that had one bottle and wanted $120AUD for it. It really is like gold dust!!

Clutch went while on the highway at 203k, was knocking (as DMF's do) for quite a while before that though. Got a dealer to install an aftermarket one after they took pity on me when they looked up the OEM price for replacement hahah..... I had been towed to them so was at their mercy anyways.. so they were good blokes for suggesting the aftermarket one.

Yes Banshee its a Merc truck gearbox really... probably why the oil is so exxy..
I did have a bit of speckled bronze in the oil that came out as well..
I've had the Jeep from new and its done quite a few highway km's and a bit of sand but nothing super hard (no heavy towing). Was a bit surprised at the amount of metal work on the magnet I must say.

Price has gone up quite since.

Hi All, I took some advice from one of you guys and changed the oil again 10k later... (sort of a long flush I know).. Here's the yogurt pot test result.. New Oil First photo

A little dark still and the magnet was still a little furry..

For the record, I'm using Penrite Trans Gear 75W-80, which meets the Chrysler MS-9224 spec. (Typically $49 at Repco for the 2.5L.)
