I'm wondering a similar thing I have a 2.5" lift plus larger tyres, do I need an engineers certificate or just proof it was done pre-August 09.

Being a motorcyclist as well as a 4wder there have been a number of changes to laws for bikes come and go as they are so rediculous the motorcycling community causes a massive stir on the issue.

Has this issue on suspension lift been responded to by the 4WD Association? Are there other channels that our combined voice can be heard? I'm happy to send a letter to my local member....

my understanding is that you can have a total increase of 50mm, this includes tyre increase or suspension lift or body lift or a mixture of these but to a maximum of 50mm. Either way it seriously sucks!!

wow one minute their talking roofline up by 6" and now this. So I wonder what changed. I thought the whole idea of NCOP was so we could make the bigger trucks legal. I mean anything is possible if you throw enough money at it. There has to be more to this than meets the eye. First they lockup the bush and now this extreemly small lift allowed. You dont need I mod plate for a 2" lift that is ridiculous. They havent taken into account IFS and live axils or short and long wheelbase vehicles, this is really weird. Anybody with 1/2 a brain could have made better laws than this. There has to be something going on behind the scenes we havent been told about. I wonder if these politians are anti 4WD by any chance.

yep, the max allowable increase in tyre diameter is 15mm so you are only allowed a max suspension increase of 35mm. Theres really no chance of getting it engineered before the date, but those of us with sensible looking rigs should be fine as long as the lift was done under the current laws, Im not really sure how they can police that. Ive read that its the RTA's responsibility to find out if the suspension was done prior to the new laws so its doubtful they will ever be able to. Best thing we can do is write a letter to the relevant authorities and hope they see some sense whilst driving our vehicles sensibly and not giving them any ammunition. Now really is the time to act upon this is you havent already.

15mm increase in tyre diameter. So basically you cant change your tyre height at all, only go from an A/T to a muddy of the same size. Oh the joy!!

XJ/TJ you can get from the stock 225/75/15 to a 235/75/15 so at least you can find a LT tyre in some brands. For JKs, you're probably pretty much stuffed as you say.

I know it's splitting hairs and at times like these nobody likes a smartarse, but ... 15mm diameter increase is only a 7.5 mm ride height increase (or less), so don't get too hung up over this 35mm figure. Most 2" lifts seem to measure up at less than 40mm anyway.
