Default FP relay fail...

Following the second recall on my 2013 FP relay I whipped out the Chinese one they'd installed and put in a Narva. Yesterday it failed. Got 5,731km out of it. Conclusion: might have been better with the Chinese one? Anyway I've put another new Narva in, we'll see what happens...

Farwest's policy of carrying more than one spare is a good idea

I wondered too. Aussie company but manufactured where? Nothing on the relay itself, and I didnt keep the card/package. Will look at them in Bunnings again tomorrow. Disappointing performance though.

I know there's a popular view that the relay should ideally be a bigger & beefier unit to serve the FP than the one installed. I'm just reinforcing the point that it's a seemingly common failure as has been said before.

Owners, please carry some spares!

Maybe it needs a cooling system like the ones for a CPU with the option of led's.

Upping the amperage only means it will handle the current without heating up, hence should have heavier everything so less resistence, less heating up then in theory................. the amp rating is so it doesn't melt or burn out, I certainly would be going to a higher amp job if the 40 melts then up to 50, its not a fuse....

Well it stands to reason if the points are burning out and the relay chassis is distorted by heat, just like spotty relays, they melt you fitted bigger buggas... its all about resistance..... maybe needs to be like the old aircraft, switch on power, switch on fuel, contact, vroom ..................

I have even thought if one made an extension lead which using a relay base on one end and a female socket on the other and plugged into the original board socket, run out of box and the larger relay plugged into the lead, save hacking underneath ...............
