Where abouts are you? If you live in the nanny state of QLD, technically speaking on the JK you can only "legally" lift about 30mm from stock, despite being able to buy/fit "mopar" (Lovells) 50mm coils from the dealer... (no - technically the Mopar coils are not legal in QLD).

For tyres you can jump up maximum 15mm to a massive 32 inch diameter!!

And although we can 'legally' jump to 1.5x the normal tyre width, we can only drop the backspace from the stock 6in to 5in (when keeping at 7.5 in wide rims) to keep the track within the law (+50mm max), so realistically we can put about 305's on 5in backspace rims to keep within track limitations (315's would prob foul on 5in backspace). But then I am not 100% sure 305's are legal on 7.5in rims. Go to 8in rims and your backspace has to drop back to 5 1/4 in to keep track legal.

Bottom line, keeping it 100% legal is not easy...

This is a great post and I have said many times before. If you don't get your insurance company to agree with your legal upgrades you will not be insured.
If you build a big 4x4 truck you should trailer it to each event as towing an unregistered truck is illegal.
To me 4x4 driving is trying to get a stock Jeep up some really hard trails. There is no fun in having a built up Jeep which will easily drive these trails. I have not found many trails in NZ I could not get my Jeep up with a winch in the end.

it takes more skill to get a more standard vehicle up a track than it does a monster on 37" tyres.... (awaits flaming) skill reducing modifications

305mm tyres are outside the guidelines for a 17 / 7.5 inch rim, no tyre place will fit them up for you.... is illegal
