Default Alternator voltage

Hi all again , more drama's ! . Yesterday cleaned the IAC valve , run round the block , all good , This morning start her up , fine , then I notice Alternator light stays on . Yesterday the Battery was fine , eye check hole was bright Green , this morning no colour . I think the under bonnet may have discharged the battery , so ive put her on a 20amp charger for a while and its Green again , so what id like to know is Chicken or the egg , did alternator flatten the Battery or was the Alternator light on because the battery is buggered ? , cheers.

Just look at the voltmeter on the dash (I presume the ZJ has a volt meter, if not stick a multimeter on the battery) If its sitting on 12, 12 1/2 volts and goes up to around 14 when you start the motor, you can be pretty sure the alternator is OK.

Thanks for reply , twice tested after turning it on , once 11.54 volts this morning then 12.31 after charging battery . Had battery checked , its o'k' . Tomorrow i'll inspect/clean all leads and connections , then test again . This low voltage may have something to do with my suspected fuel starve issues ? , cheers.

12.3 is a bit low. A good battery at rest is about 12.7v.
I do know our burglar alarms used to play up for no apparent reason, changing the battery fixed them, even though the battery tested ok.

Watched a demo , at 13,0 volts pump had about 50psi , at 11.0 volts 30psi , that's what I was probably getting sometimes at the pump , maybe even less . I don't reckon the car would run properly at those figures .
