Legal? Sure.
As long as they are engineered on the vehicle they are fitted to.
Ie, unimogs, Volvo trucks, and those with Marks Adaptors portals.

None are legal in Vic.
That said, I've copped a nod and a grin and a thumbs up from different cops along the way.

However, all it takes is a fun nazi having a bad day to give me a canary I guess.
I'm with you mate. Do what you got to do. After all life is a game of chances. I'm having one of those week with the FN. whats a ten yr old doing with beadlockers ?

Seems my lunchtime response was thwarted by the stupid phone reception so I'll try again.

My understanding around the issue of beadlock rims is not so much simply the rim itself but moreso that it is not legal to modify a rim. So to add to comments above about Walker Evans, Hutchinson and AEV, they are certified OK in the US and that makes sense as they are not modified wheels. They are manufactured as a beadlock design and certified as safe to use presumably from the standard. Not sure why say Mickey Thompsons Classic Lock is not in the same category. All steel rims that I have seen on the other hand are modified from a base steel rim.

I believe the same issue arises with Staun internal beadlocks as it would be illegal for someone else to modify a wheel to accept the extra air valve. I recall at one stage that Staun had their name on their own wheel with said hole but not sure how far this went as that wheel was still only the Performance industrial design based wheel and I don't know if Staun was drilling them or Performance was supplying them with 2 holes. Maybe Performance wouldn't supply with 2 holes as that would put the onus on them and Sataun couldn't then drill them as we are back to square one. I never followed the development of this scenario as I had no real interest in beadlocks and I'm also not sure exactly where this puts Aussie users as far as whether the rims complying in the US automatically comply here as well.

As usual clear as mud.

A better question
Megan sort of tyres do you plan to run and what size?

I wouldn't bother with bead locks on anything under a 35 and a bias construction like simex or treps

Bead locks on radials are a waste the sidewalks are soft enough and bag well at 20 psi (generally)

Nah, thanks but the question stands about the legality of them, not how one chooses to use them or not. Appreciate your thoughts anyway.

31 inch tyres are roadworthy or legal on an xj cherokee limited

So ya saying run 30 inch mud tyres and run bead locks that are road legal

What in saying is the tracks your able to do on 30 inch tyres the difderence in traction bead lockers make is pointless

If your going to run 33s or 35s then it's already not road legal so why worry about bead locks? Not to mention the lift required will be un roadworthy
