Default How to identify correct differential 98 XJ Diesel

Hi folks.

So the rear diff in the XJ has a whine thats getting annoying, I'm lining up a mechanic mate to give give me a hand and replace the bearings etc in the diff but I'm not 100% certain of the diff that's in there. Did the XJ diesels have the Dana 35?. Also can anyone recommend where I can get a good bearing kit to do the job. An idea of $$$ would be good to know too.

Thanks

should be able to get the bearings from a local shop, or try wooders Garage on

his website is currently down.

Rockauto or Wooders. What you also need to find out is if you have an LSD or open diff. If you have an LSD you would be wise to get a clutch pack also. I would go as far to say that if the bearings are worn out so will be the clutch. At least it was on mine at 130-140k.

Regards A
