Question 74 CJ5/6 windscreen to tub seal rubber

Has anyone replaced this rubber

and successfully got a seal?
where did you buy it from, and how much did it cost?

mine leaks big time, and tho it doesn't rain much here,

I just wondered wether it's worth doing.

Mate if it's the original one chances are it has shrunk a little and will either have a gap where it joins or around the corners...also seen some rust under the bottom edge of the seal on the frame...if its showing any signs of cracking or if you can lift the edge of the seal and it don't spring back ....chuck it...and hit "Wooders" up for a new one..

its not realy hard to refit it yourself (PM me if you need instruction) but otherwise you might be worth while just paying someone like O'briens to fit it for about $70 buck and taking them up on the "No leak " promise..

Cheers

cj350, are we talking about the same thing?
the one I'm thinking of is the flat seal that goes between tub and windscreen frame

Thumbs up

Ive got the same rubber you are talking about at home, brand new. i was going to use it after my re spray but what i have ended up doing is getting a strip of rubber/foam from clark rubber and sticking it to the body tub under the windscreen frame. i used some left over sica flex from the re build and gave it a nice even coat along the bottom with no gaps so that it wont hold any water/sand/dirt and flipped the windscreen back up to hold it down over night. it had the same done to it 30 years ago before i rebuilt it and it has never leaked and there was no rust under there when i pulled the old rubber off.
it might sound a bit cheap but it is better than the factory rubber and looks neater also.
i think it cost me about $10. you cant go wrong.
